  • Functions are performed by a Chief Building Official and a By-law Enforcement Officer
Duties include services in the areas of:
  • Planning
  • Zoning and building
  • Business and lottery licenses
  • By-law enforcement and animal control
Community Services
  • Maintains the Marathon Recreation Complex
  • Provides resources for and is responsible to the Community Development Commission and the Parks and Recreation Commission
  • Manages and maintains several municipal recreation facilities
  • Summer, fall, winter, and spring programming including public swimming, Red Cross swimming lessons, public skating, and drop-in hockey, among others
  • Assists groups and organizations with their leisure activity interests and initiatives
  • Prepares long-term strategies including the identification of community leisure activity needs
  • Actively promotes all recreation programs to ensure maximum participation and cost effectiveness
  • Coordinates annual special events such as the Christmas Parade and Volunteer Service Awards
  • Provides assistance to groups seeking financial or other assistance
Economic Development provides:
  • Business directory
  • Business licensing
  • Business start-up
  • Community profile
  • Development and administration of a community Economic Development Strategy, including economic and community development initiatives, business retention and expansion, and the promotion of industrial and commercial development
  • Community tourism projects, as well as operating the Marathon Visitor Information Centre
Emergency Services is responsible for:
  • Emergency plan
  • Volunteer fire department
  • Burn permits
  • Provides free home fire safety inspections for residents, and will install smoke detectors if requested
Finance provides information on:
  • Budget
  • Financial information
  • Payment due dates
  • Performance measures
